Since DNG is based on the TIFF/EP format, it is possible to get the windows explorer to display the embedded thumbnails of all your DNG files, if you do the correct changes in the Registry.
Shaun Ivory, a Microsoft Software Design Engineer explained the procedure for Nikon .nef files in this post at RobGalbraith's forum. Thomas Knoll, the man behind Photoshop, Camera Raw and the DNG format added that you can do the very same procedure with the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dng entry of your Registry to get thumbnail support right in Explorer!
Remember to ALWAYS back up your registry before changing any value, and that you do it at your own risk... Please also read carefully Shaun's disclaimer.

Thanks for sharing this tidbit. Your disclaimer is especially important. Last month I messed up my registry file and life has not been the same since!!!

Any changes to the registry files or OS needs to be done with care. Software problems are easy to solve for the experts but for the people who just use the applications any distruption can be quite disastrous.

Registry Cleaning is risky unless due precaution is taken.

I am a pro, beyond repair and into developing products... we dont ever fix a trashed registry, without a copy from before the trashing, there is no way to see all the possible damage. In this case we wipe a hard drive empty and clean install windows, this is also truth for almost all spyware and viral infections, really malware of any sort. Saving a trashed operating system takes a hundred times longer than an install unless you know EXACTLY whats going on. 90% of anybody with say a hardware cert like A+ working in repair at a shop mostly watches progress indicators like 50% (or longer) of every day. Very little time is spent (wasted) on obscure problem sort of diagnosis that isnt directly related to hardware function... too many places and layers in which to hide things on the software side, easier to just blow it out and run in a new one. Ask anyone.

regitry cleaning is very use full...
I have used it before and it has improved the condition of my computer.
It works fine, the start up and shut down is now much faster.
My computer does not hang also..

I agree with your post. When I run Windows XP I feel almost paranoid when going online and also when installing software. I check downloaded software with multiple virusscanners before installing. Also I use the noscript addon for firefox to block javascript and other scripts.

I am always afraid to play around with the windows registry. It has given me great trouble in the past. I have had to turn back my computer with set points on more then one occassion. Now, I try to avoid working on the registry except with registry utilities.

I too have played with the windows registry and have had bad luck when it comes to nosing around where I should not belong. I have since switched to registry cleaner utilities to handle my windows registry problems. I though will try rob galbraith's instructions.

I have had trouble in the past with my windows registry. I have messed around it myself because I though I could fix something simply. I ended up crashing the computer. I had a hard time even getting to my restore points to restore to a previous session. Now I use a competent windows registry cleaner to help navigate my windows registry.

I think you have to be careful working on your windows registry if you don't know what your are doing. It is very easy to make a mistake a stop your computer from working. When I first started with windows I did something and then tried to edit it in the windows registry myself. I ended up having to reinstall windows because I could never get it to work properly after I played with the registry.

Playing around manually with the registry can be a problem. You really need to know what you are doing. I always use one of the windows registry cleaner utilities.

I don't play around with the registry. I tried to learn but I think it is too dangerous. I use one of the many available registry repair utilities out there.

Excellent resource, although I too am very wary about playing around in the registry. The repair tools on the market make the job so easy for me.
