Interesting thread on the excellent resource site www.robgalbraith.com
Participants have raised the questions: Why is DNG important, and why has rawformat posted a petition?
Andrew Rodney has provided a concise answer:
"It's an open standard that Adobe is proposing. Right now we have more then 100 different proprietary RAW file formats which is a nightmare and will only get worse. While Adobe has produced this spec and a free converter, what we really need are the manufacturers to adopt this new format directly in the camera systems freeing us from incompatibly today and into the future. This site (rawformat.com) has a lot of useful information and background on the issues. A petition is most needed so if you will, read up on the issues and sign. This is a mission critical factor affecting all digital photographers. "
