I hesitate to mention this, because it may appear irrelevant. (It isn't).

The DNG Converter also accepts DNG as INPUT. (The result is that the output DNG can have changed options, such as lossless compression on/off or demosaicing). It is also the way of extracting embedded original Raw files if they were embedded in an earlier use of the Converter.

blueMarine - open source application for photo workflow - has preliminary (EXIF reading) support for DNG in v0.8.5. Next release (v0.8.6) will have Leica digital back DNG support. blueMarine is written in Java and runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X.
